By Lilli Manolis Sherman Plascs Technology Polyolefin demand is moving in step with a rising economy, says LyondellBasell. With an annual growth rate of 4 percent, demand for HDPE is rising, requiring approximately 12 new world-scale HDPE plants over the next three years. Demand for PP is rising even faster—close to 5 percent per year globally. Global PP demand growth amounted to approxi- mately 150 billion pounds in 2017. To meet that rising demand, LyondellBasell developed a company strategy, which is on display at NPE2018 (Booth W206). "Our strategy has fueled new and innovaঞve products and process technologies, such as the Hyperzone PE technol- ogy we're featuring at our booth. Our new Hyperzone PE plant is scheduled to come online in mid-2019 and will be the first facility to deploy our new PE technology, which rep- resents a novel applicaঞon of a technology originally devel- oped for PP." LyondellBasell says the Hyperzone PE technology produc- es HDPE that balances ease of processing, high-performance and physical properঞes, including superior toughness and improved chemical resistance. Evaluaঞons are underway on a new 1.1 billion pounds per year North American PP plant uঞ- lizing LyondellBasell's Spherizone PP technology. "Even as per-capita consumpঞon rises, we are looking for innovaঞve ways to parঞcipate in the growing circular econo- my," the spokesperson says. "With the increased demand for recycled and reused plasঞcs, especially in Europe, Lyondell- Basell and SUEZ recently finalized a 50/50 partnership in Quality Circular Polymers (QCP), a premium plasঞcs recycling company in Si•ard-Geleen, Netherlands." LyondellBasell says the plant is currently capable of converঞng consumer waste into 25,000 tons of PP and HDPE with an objecঞve of reach- ing 35,000 tons later in 2018. SUEZ will use its technology to improve the idenঞficaঞon, separaঞon and preparaঞon of materials to be used as feed- stock at QCP. LyondellBasell will apply its plasঞc producঞon technology, experience in product development and knowl- edge of polyolefin end-use markets. Earlier this year LyondellBasell announced that it had signed a definiঞve agreement to acquire A. Schulman and create an Advanced Polymer Soluঞon compounding business with a diverse product porolio, including high-performance plasঞc compounds, composites and powders. The move has doubled the size of the company's compounding business. Moreo Doubles Down On North America at NPE2018 By Tony Deligio Plascs Technology More•o has two booths at NPE2018: W8545 and S17095, in the West and South halls, with the South hall booth in The Bo•le Zone. Here, Moret- to recreates PET preform and cap molding opera- ঞons, displaying resin conveying, blending and drying. Featured equip- ment includes a "smart" More•o One Wire3 con- veying system, a Gravix DGM 900 gravimetric batch blender, Eureka Plus drying, Purex con- densate separator, and the MOWIS supervisory control system operaঞng Smart Factory 4.0. The system also has a More•o Mold Dryer for prevent- ing condensaঞon on the tool. In the company's West Hall booth, Smart Factory 4.0 shows the integraঞon of every device while the Eureka Plus drying system provides reduced energy consumpঞon and improved drying perfor- mance, parঞcularly for PET. According to More•o, processors that have adopted Eureka Plus drying have experienced an average reducঞon in energy consumpঞon of 56 percent com- pared to convenঞonal drying. The Eureka Plus package entails Designed specifically for U.S. processors, Moreo's Loader F24 stainless-steel, high- capacity, self-contained hopper loader can operate on common, single-phase power. conঞnued on page 32 26
