FRIDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY Heinz Schneider Steps Down as President of Pelletron, Execuঞve VP Replaces Him Heinz Schneider (right) will officially step down as the president of Pelletron (Booth W2153) at the end of May, following NPE2018, with Thomas Bayer (le[) taking his place. Bayer is currently Pelletron's execuঞve vice president. Schneider joined Pelletron as president and minority shareholder in 2003, and along with Paul Wagner, he took ownership of the company in 2008. Both men sold their stakes to current owner, IPEG, in 2016, with Schneider retained as president. Heinz came to the U.S. from Germany in 1995, founding plasঞcs pneumaঞc conveying systems supplier Waeschle Inc. in Chicago. Bayer, who became Pelletron's execuঞve vice president in January, has more than 20 years of experience in water treatment, separaঞon systems and bulk solids handling. He earned a degree in chemical engineering in Germany in 1987. Three-Material Molding with Foamed and Solid LSR On display at the Negri Bossi booth (W363) is an example of the Canbio sT servo-hydraulic tog- gle line (180 to 500 metric tons), recently introduced to North America. These "highly modular" machines have the Tactus controller with 21.5-in. touchscreen and energy-consumpঞon monitor. A 180-m.t., two-shot model with a third auxiliary injector is molding a ping pong paddle with three materials (or four, depending on how you're counঞng). The rigid core of the paddle is PBT, molded on the main horizon- tal injector. The smaller verঞcal injector molds a TPU so[-touch handle. The mold is directly fed liquid silicone by an "Easy-Balance LSR" unit from Guzzini Engineer- ing. This unit overmolds two dif- ferent ball-control faces on the paddle in two densiঞes—the firm- er face in solid LSR and the "spongier" side in microcellular foamed LSR. Parts are handled by a six-axis robot from sister company Sytrama. Negri Bossi is molding a ping pong bat of PBT, TPU and both solid and foamed LSR. Techmer PM Showcases Bole Made from 100% Ocean-Bound Plasঞcs By Heather Caliendo Plascs Technology Thermal Gate Nozzles Facilitate Leak-Proof System Operaঞon Masঞp Technology (Booth W4691) announces the release of Nexus pre-assembled and pre- wired systems incorporaঞng FlowLoc nozzle technology. A Nexus System is ready to be installed in a mold without the need for pre-heaঞng and is suitable for automoঞve, appliance and electri- cal applicaঞons. The company says that by leveraging the technology of FlowLoc Nozzles, the system offers a superior thermal profile that provides a wide molding window without the risk of polymer leakage while also offering protecঞon from accidental cold-condiঞon starঞng. Nexus Systems are able to process a wide range of commodity and aggressive engineering grade poly- mers, are suitable for high-pressure applicaঞons and are fully customizable to suit any specific requirements. Masঞp Technology's new Nexus System is compaঞble with FlowLoc 16, 19 and 27 Series thermal gate nozzles, which a•ach securely to the manifold with a threaded connecঞon for what the company describes as the ulঞmate leak-proof soluঞon. Masঞp says that the Nexus System is fast and easy to install out of the box, includes a customized wiring trunk to match specific mold layouts and offers quick removal of the complete unit from the mold for ease of service. The recovery of ocean-bound plasঞcs is a hot topic at NPE2018. A real-life example of this innovaঞve technology is on display at the Techmer PM (Booth S27015) in the form of a bo•le that is made from Envision's Ocean- Bound Plasঞc at 100% content and features a silver metallic, pearlescent-effect finish due to some compounding experঞse by Techmer PM. A collaboraঞve team that included mate- rials design firm Techmer PM, Primal Group, bo•le blow molder Classic Containers and plasঞcs recycler Envision Plasঞcs Industries has worked intensively since last August to find a way to make such a product possible using Envision's OceanBound Plasঞc. Make your way to Techmer PM's booth (S27015) to learn about the company's 100% ocean-bound plasঞc bole. Rick Shaffer, managing director of Wesall Technik says his company has purchased the Arburg Freeformer on dislplay here at the show. "We had a customer come to us through a third-party that wanted to create a 100% ocean-bound plasঞc bo•le," says Steve Lo- ney, director of market development for Techmer PM. "In the past, it hadn't been 100% ocean bound and we were able to overcome some challenges to produce this beauঞful silver metallic bo•le." Applicaঞons for this type of packaging includes personal care, health and beauty and household items. "The younger generaঞon are savvy cus- tomers and they want to know the products that they are buying are from an environ- mentally-responsible company," says Loney. "We believe this will conঞnue and there will more of it." 14 Wesall Technik Moves into Addiঞve Manufacturing with Arburg Freeformer By Jim Callari Plascs Technology Rick Shaffer, managing director of Wesall Technik (Room W230-34), says his company is commi•ed to providing its medical industry customers with an "end-to-end" supply chain for injecঞon molded parts. A key element in that strategy was the acquisiঞon earlier this year of 10 Day Parts Inc., a rapid tooling pro- ducer whose name describes its business per- fectly: from design to injecঞon-molded parts in 10 business days. But what happens when 10 days is not fast enough or when there is a quesঞon about how different gaঞng locaঞons will impact the part appearance? They turn to addiঞve manu- facturing, and that's why 10 Day Parts and Wesall have purchased the Arburg Freeformer that is on display at NPE2018. "No other addiঞve manufacturing technol- ogy allows you to use real-world pelleঞzed materials the way that Freeformer does," says Shaffer. "If we want to use ABS, then we put a scoop of ABS in the hopper and off we go." Another factor was the very posiঞve expe- rience Wesall has with Arburg molding ma- chines. Shaffer says that, among the eight companies that currently make up the group, all but one site operates some Arburg molding machines. A[er NPE, the show machine will be shipped back to the Arburg USA facility in Rocky Hill, Connecঞcut, to be completely re- furbished before delivery to 10 Day Parts fa- cility in Corona, CA.
