WEDNESDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY Zeroing in on a Recycling Target: 100% Waste Diversion Is the Goal at NPE2018 WEIMA America shredding equipment is part of NPE2018's push for a 100% waste diversion. By Tony Deligio Plascs Technology Part of the appeal of NPE is the opportunity to see plasঞcs machinery in operaঞon, and for equipment suppliers exhibiঞng, the goal is to show just how quickly their technology can convert pellets to parts. Plasঞcs Industry Associaঞon (PLASTICS) wants aendees to know that those parts—and scrap—produced outside of a purchase order will live on to be converted another day thanks to a 100% waste diversion goal for the show. The show has once again contracted with Commercial Plasঞcs Recycling (CPR), Tampa, Florida, to collect and remove scrap plasঞc from the NPE2018 show floor and transport it to the new, on-site recycling area in the Westwood parking lot adjacent to the West Hall. Sponsored by size reducঞon equipment supplier WEIMA America (Booths W5489 and W5589), this area features WEIMA's two-stage shredding system, which is reduc- ing collected scrap plasঞc into small pellets before it is transported to CPR's headquar- ters in Tampa. Aendees can visit the demon- straঞon area to see the recycling process in acঞon. In the Earth Day press release, Paul Benvenuঞ of CPR noted that reducing the plasঞc into smaller pellets before transporta- ঞon—new at NPE2018—allows his company to use fewer trucks to ship the resin to its facility in Tampa, resulঞng in reduced carbon emissions. CPR was also the official recycler at NPE2015 when it helped divert fully 87% of plasঞc waste from the show. In addiঞon to show floor parts and scrap, PLASTICS says food prep waste from the show that can't be donated is being collected and transported to Harvest Power's Energy Garden here in Orlando, where it will be re- cycled into electricity and ferঞlizer for local farms. All things new in the world of 3D and 4D prinঞng can be found on display in the 3D/4D Prinঞng Zone. 92 Servo Hydraulic Toggle 1000us~2500us ton Two Platen Servo Hydraulic 1200us~3900us ton All Electric Toggle 390us~3900us ton Electric Two Platen 1200us~3900us ton We Deliver World Class Performance TEL:734.741.7000 Booth W442 Get into the Zone: 3D/4D Prinঞng By Hannah Mason Plascs Technology The 3D/4D Prinঞng Zone is new to NPE2018, showcasing all the ways that three- and four-di- mensional prinঞng are revoluঞonizing new product creaঞon. "This zone was added to bring to- gether industry professionals using and learning about new 3D/4D technology," Anderson says. "It's part of our goal of creaঞng the zones to be areas of focused technology for exhibitors and aendees." This zone is 4,800 net [² of exhibit space dedicated to the latest 3D/4D (also known as addi- ঞve manufacturing) prinঞng trends and technologies. Expect to see exhibitors represenঞng three countries and a range of industries, from automoঞve to healthcare and everything in be- tween, all puমng on display the wide variety of uses for 3D/4D prinঞng in today's rapidly digi- talizing world. Here visitors will see the technologies enabling many companies to produce pro- totypes, mold components, and even finished parts directly from digital files. One of this new Zone's must-sees, though, are the 3D Prinঞng Workshops, according to Glenn Anderson, Chairman of NPE2018 and vice president, Strategic Account Development for Milacron. Sponsored by Addiঞve Manufacturing Media and Plascs Technology magazine, visi- tors can learn more in-depth about 3D prinঞng and addiঞve manufacturing technologies from the perspecঞve of plasঞcs processing. Topics include short-run producঞon, conformal cooling, end-of-arm tooling, bridge tooling, and material advancements.
