WEDNESDAY N PE 2 018 M AY 9 TH NPE2018 PRODUCTS ON DISPLAY Coperion K-Tron Announces U.S. Producঞon of Rotary Valves Coperion K-Tron | Booth W729 To significantly shorten delivery ঞmes for American customers, Coperion K-Tron is starঞng the U.S. producঞon of rotary valves type ZRD at its facility in Salina, Kansas. The Coperion brand rotary valves are being added to the full line of Aerolock rotary valves that Coperion K-Tron has manufactured in Salina for 60 years. The company says that this joint effort ensures that the American-made valves will perform to the highest technological and per- formance standards. In addiঞon, this move and efforts to boost stocked inventory allow Coperion to deliver and repair valves in the Americas with significantly shorter delivery ঞmes. As an example, the company says that standard gray cast-iron and stainless steel ZRD rotary valves will be available to custom- ers within four to six weeks. The Coperion ZRD rotary valve is specially designed for food, mineral, plasঞcs and chem- ical applicaঞons. The ZRD is o[en used as a discharging and metering valve for conveying products in powder and granular form. An extensive range is available, with throughputs ranging from 500 to 400,000-plus lb/hr, de- pending on bulk density and applicaঞon. Co- perion and Coperion K-Tron debut the U.S.-manufactured ZRD rotary valve at NPE2018 in Booth W729. coperion.com | (856) 589-0500 Technology Takes Aim at Drying Specialized Resins Novatec Inc. | Booth W3729 An increase among molders in running highly tailored nylons—some for the first ঞme—has encouraged Novatec to develop features aimed at ensuring these materials are dried properly. As a result, Novatec has taken two technologies established in central drying and adapted them to its line of NovaWheel portable dryers: Moisture Manager and OverDry Protecঞon. Novatec's Moisture Manager uses valves in the dryer and a dewpoint measurement out of the drying hopper to determine if moisture is being pulled from the resin, or if the resin is already dried to the appropriate moisture level. If the resin is already dry, the blower loop will exclude the desiccant, recir- culate and heat without using dry air at -40° F/C dewpoint. If, however, the moisture monitor in the hopper outlet senses that the resin requires addiঞonal drying at any point, dry air is introduced into the loop automaঞ- cally, and then bypassed again automaঞcally when the desired dryness is achieved. Each resin can have a recipe that ensures proper resin moisture always. As for OverDry Protecঞon, once this fea- ture is turned on, the dryer will automaঞcally adjust the drying setpoint parameters to maintain the correct drying temperature based on an algorithm in the control pro- gram. Once the operator inputs the desired drying temperature, the dryer control takes it from there, determining the appropriate hopper exit temperature at which the drying temperature should be reduced, and auto- maঞcally finds the temperature that gives the proper temperature profile in the hopper. No further intervenঞon is necessary, and the dryer automaঞcally adjusts and maintains the temperatures to have a consistent drying-temperature profile. In cases where operators change a gaylord or resin source—and the resin temperature or moisture is different from the previous lot— the dryer control automaঞcally adjusts to maintain the temperature profile. They boast an ul- tra-compact, lightweight design and are said to "represent the next level of speed and precision for assembly and material-handling applicaঞons," according to FANUC. They have four axes, high precision (±0.01 mm), and 360° work envelope. The two models are SR-3iA, with 3-kg payload and 400-mm reach, and SR-6iA, with 6-kg payload and 650-mm reach.
