By Hannah Mason Plascs Technology One of the largest zones at NPE2018, the Moldmaking Zone features the latest technol- ogy in mold making and brings together pro- fessionals from across the field of manufac- turing. According to Glenn Anderson, chairman of NPE2018 and vice president, Strategic Ac- count Development for Milacron, aendees and exhibitors should expect to see a lile of everything in this zone. "You'll see product design here, you'll see part design here. This zone aracts people that cut molds to make parts. Every customer that comes to see an injecঞon molding machine will also want to come here. This zone aracts people like tool- ing designers who may not otherwise even come to the show," Anderson says. The Moldmaking Zone is 30,900 net [² of space dedicated to global suppliers of com- plete molds, mold components, so[ware, and more, with exhibitors represenঞng eight countries. R&D/Leverage is one of the exhibitors to see in this zone. Robert Schiavone, global mar- keঞng director at R&D/Leverage, says it was a perfect fit. "Our bread and buer is in mold making," he says. "It's the premise of what we do. We are very proud as a company to be as versaঞle in our offerings as we are." Starঞng with mold making and branching off into mold refurbishment, design analysis, virtual prototyping, 3D part scanning, rapid prototyping and more, Schiavone says mold making is a starঞng point for the company that leads into many other facets of packaging de- sign and innovaঞon to aract the aenঞon of brand owners as well as processors and con- verters. According to Schiavonne, R&D/Leverage has something to offer brand owners as well as processors and converters, and he is hoping to see aendees across the board stopping by the Moldmaking Zone. Engel's Online Customer Portal is Now LIVE By Ma Naitove Plascs Technology The redesigned e-connect customer portal from Engel is now live in North America. "With the new so[ware, we can now provide customers with more specific informaঞon at any ঞme and independently of their locaঞon, establish contact with them even faster, and provide the best possible support to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0," says Wolfgang Degwerth, vice president sales and service at Engel's U.S. office in York, Pennsylvania. All machines and system soluঞons supplied by Engel (Booth W3303) are stored in the portal system, with the current status shown. Users can reproduce the structure of their individual machines in the system and even assign producঞon lines to different buildings or departments online. The equipment history in this knowledge base can make it quicker and easier to find soluঞons to service issues. And each new service call is fully documented in e-connect. E-connect especially facilitates purchases of spare parts. Customers can download a quotaঞon and can track the parts shipment online. The portal includes the new e-connect monitor for predicঞve, condiঞon-based main- tenance. The first two capabiliঞes of this type are monitoring the condiঞon of plasঞcaঞng screws and checking condiঞon of spindles driven by servo motors via automaঞc online monitoring. In both cases, results of the evalu- aঞon are stored on e-connect and are avail- able at any ঞme. Engel will integrate future service products for the smart factory into this customer portal, notes Degwerth. 89
