TUESDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY conঞnued on page 94 By Lilli Manolis Sherman Plascs Technology Nova Chemicals' development work in poly- olefins is increasingly being influenced by major market trends reshaping the consumer experience. "We are focusing on packaging and other soluঞons, and how our products provide the required performance properঞes for today's most important applicaঞons," says Mark Kay, performance films group leader at Nova Chemicals. Representaঞves of the com- pany are in Room W207AB at NPE2018. Mega trends as defined by Nova include: Sustainability: New PE resins and other recent innovaঞons are enabling mulঞlayer moisture and moisture-plus-oxygen-barrier food packaging to move from mulঞ-material, non-recyclable structures to recycling- stream-compliant structures. "We are exhib- iঞng physical samples and informaঞon to help film producers and converters learn more about how they can produce these types of recyclable structures and packaging," Kay says. Shi[ing demographics and consumer pref- erences are driving the demand for more sus- tainable soluঞons in packaging and beyond. Negaঞve publicity around plasঞc gyres in the ocean and beaches strewn with plasঞcs only adds to the urgency to lightweight products; increase recyclability; boost curbside collec- ঞon; enhance sorঞng capabiliঞes; and inno- vate to increase the demand for recycled materials, according to Nova Chemicals. Major retailers and brand owners are working towards goals around all reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging, and these iniঞaঞves are speeding the shi[ to re- cyclable packaging. There is also a significant push towards sustainable soluঞons by the packaging companies themselves. Examples include conversion from rigid to flexible packaging. Now, new resins and structure design are making recyclable Digital Daily Newsleer in Spanish for NPE2018 No doubt that NPE: The Plasঞcs Show is the biggest show in the Americas for the plasঞcs in- dustry and always has been a very appealing desঞnaঞon for Laঞn American professionals.
