TUESDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY NPE2018 PRODUCTS ON DISPLAY Wimann Baenfeld Shows Two New Machines in Work Cells for Medical, Packaging, and Automoঞve Wimann Baenfeld Inc. | Booth W3742 Among six work cells that Wimann Baenfeld is running at NPE2018, two pres- ent new machines for the first ঞme at a U.S. show. The EcoPower Xpress is the company's newest, high-speed, all-electric machine, aimed at packaging and other thin-wall prod- ucts (photo). It offers injecঞon speeds up to 600 mm/sec, injecঞon acceleraঞon up to 15,000 mm/sec 2 , and injecঞon pressure to 36,275 psi. Shown in prototype form at K 2016, it became commercial as of Fakuma 2017 last fall. At NPE, a 440-ton model is running a 96-cavity mold for HDPE sঞll-water caps in an expected cycle ঞme of 2.56 sec. Also new is a two-shot model of the MicroPower 15-ton micromolding press, first shown in Europe in 2016. It has two parallel injecঞon units and a rotary disk, molding a plug that goes inside the recording head of a vinyl record player. The parts are made of PC and electro-conducঞve PC. Parts removal is handled by a Wimann S8VS4 SCARA robot specially designed for this machine. Among other exhibits, Wimann Baenfeld is molding PP medical pipees in eight caviঞes on a 110-ton EcoPower all- electric cleanroom machine with a tray- filling conveyor system. Another electric EcoPower machine (180 m.t.) is molding a PP shampoo flip top in a four-cavity mold. For automoঞve, a MacroPower 850-m.t. two-platen press is producing a spoiler using an HRSflow valve-gate system with five gates and several cavity-pressure sensors. A servo-hydraulic SmartPower 110-ton machine is molding wood-plasঞc composite building blocks in eight caviঞes. Three of the cells above are using Wi- mann's Flowcon Plus electronic water-flow controller for consistent mold cooling, and three are using the Wimann Tempro Plus D TCU with new SpeedDrive opঞon—a vari- able-frequency-controlled pump that can increase process reliability and save energy by delivering the precise coolant flow re- quired by the process. | (860) 496-9603 Plaorm Collects, Transmits and Saves Flow Rate and Temperature Data Burger & Brown Engineering Inc. | Booth W3291 Burger & Brown Engineering Inc.'s TracerVM electronics plaorm gathers and shares flow rate and temperature data from up to eight TracerVM Base flowmeters installed in injec- ঞon mold cooling circuits. TracerVM Base Flowmeters purchased separately can be connected via cable to the TracerVM Blue- tooth Interface. The interface wirelessly transmits data to display on a mobile device up to 20 meters away, and the mobile app can display data from up to 30 units at one ঞme, creaঞng flow condiঞon data log files. These can then be saved onto USB flash drive to document a process's mold cooling water condiঞons. The TracerVM Bluetooth Inter- face housing is a NEMA 4X com- pliant gasketed, water-resistant, plasঞc enclosure designed to pro- tect internal circuitry from occa- sional water spray. Ethernet and USB ports are located on the housing, and the USB port may be used to charge mobile devices or connect USB flash drives for temporary data storage. Operaঞng temperature ranges from 0 to 52°C (32 to 125°F). The unit requires an 8 to 28V DC external power supply with Earth Ground, and cord grips are included to maintain water resistance. By installing economical non-display flow- meters in the cooling water line versus flow- meters that include individual displays, pro- cessors can save money with the TracerVM Bluetooth Interface, according to Burger & Brown. In addiঞon, proponents of scienঞfic injecঞon molding can use temperature and flow rate data from TracerVM Base units to confirm cooling water condiঞon require- ments and efficiency, while opঞmizing cycle ঞmes. Medical molders may also use this data to validate quality or regulatory process requirements. The TracerVMA with AutoReg is a new automaঞc flow regulator that automaঞcally adjusts flow rate to the required user-select- ed volume regardless of changes in line pres- sure. This results in a more consistent flow rate with more control over cooling water condiঞons in criঞcal molding situaঞons. The electronics control communicates with the valve actuator, which adjusts the valve open- ing to maintain the correct flow rate. Local or remotely mounted electronics control allows for convenient posiঞoning. Electronics con- trol may be mounted up to 2.9 meters (9.5- [) away from the flow sensor and regulator. Milacron and Sumitomo are having new TracerVM products installed and operaঞonal on injecঞon molding machines at the show, and RJG has examples of the Smarlow products working with its data acquisiঞon systems. | (816) 878-6675 62
