MONDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY Technology Power for Beer Intelligence and Opঞmizaঞon By Chrisঞna M. Fuges MoldMaking Technology Autodesk is pushing beer intelligence for part and mold design with its MoldFlow products and opঞmizing overall manufactur- ing with its Delcam tools and CAM speciality products at Booth W8147 in the West Hall. Autodesk's booth has three demonstra- ঞon staঞons, a charging table and theater focused on its Moldflow Soluঞons (Insight and Helius), Moldflow for Design (Adviser and MF Design) and Manufacturing (Delcam) product lines. Moldflow Insight is a complete set of advanced plasঞcs engineering simula- ঞon tools; Helius Composite so[ware offers detailed informaঞon on composite material behavior without finite element analysis (FEA); Moldflow Adviser is a plasঞc simula- ঞon tool to opঞmize part and mold designs Autodesk's booth has three primary focus areas: Moldflow Soluঞons (Insight and Helius), Moldflow for Design (Adviser and MF Design) and Manufacturing (Delcam). According to Autodesk, a big trend with the MoldFlow user base is automaঞon. to ensure molded part quality and manufac- turability, and PowerMill CAM so[ware pro- vides comprehensive milling strategies for high-speed and five-axis machining. "A big trend with the MoldFlow user base is automaঞon. That means, being able to automaঞcally explore and uঞlize more of the technology power to consider different solu- ঞons for opঞmizing upfront design; more design opঞons. Users can now use simula- ঞon to look into the performance of the tool before they actually create it, using that as an exploratory opঞon," Mark Hennebicque, business line manager at Autodesk says. On the CAM side, the company launched PowerMill 2019 last month and is showcas- ing its new features and funcঞons, including a dedicated suite of strategies to help pro- gram the growing number of CNC machines that offer both addiঞve and subtracঞve tech- nology. PowerMill is capable of driving both wire-fed and powder-blown hardware with three- and five-axis machine moঞon. For five-axis machining, a new "automaঞc tool axis ঞlঞng" method simplifies the cre- aঞon of collision-free toolpaths. This single soluঞon creates smooth and safe five-axis moঞon for all model shapes and toolpath types, making it as easy to create five-axis programs as it is to produce three-axis code, according to the company. Also, PowerMill's Vortex high-efficiency roughing strategy now includes a new "From Stock" opঞon that uses "Adapঞve Clearing" to produce toolpaths that machine parts with considerably shorter cycle ঞmes than previous releases. For 2D machining, PowerMill provides an improved workflow for the definiঞon of open-sided 2D features. These can now also be created based on a selecঞon of surfaces reducing programming even more. Power- Mill's ViewMill stock simulaঞon tool offers a "Remaining Material" shading mode. This helps CAM programmers to idenঞfy areas of un-machined stock, to ensure parts are com- pleted before removing from the machine. PowerMill 2019 includes a direct interface to Autodesk Fusion Producঞon, a cloud-based collaboraঞon tool specializing in scheduling and tracking producঞon and monitoring CNC machine uঞlizaঞon. Theater presentaঞon topics this week include meshing improvements; comparing Moldflow Adviser to Moldflow Insight; cool- ing, beyond the results; weldline strength; MuCell; shrink and warp; CAM; matching simulaঞon to process seমngs; conformal cooling 3D-printed inserts; importance of materials properঞes and tesঞng; valve gate simulaঞon and cloud advantages. Other educaঞonal opportuniঞes include Autodesk's parঞcipaঞon in the ANTEC Tech- nical Conference Program with presentaঞons on deformaঞon and stress predicঞon of in- jecঞon-molded components a[er being mounted into designed posiঞon; the effects of stress relaxaঞon on shrinkage and warp- age of injecঞon-molded parts; using a new anisotropic rotaঞonal diffusion model to improve predicঞon of short fibers in thermo- plasঞc injecঞon molding; and numerical and experimental studies on flow and warpage during resin transfer molding process. On top of all the technology talk, Autodesk is hosঞng a pizza, beer and wine recepঞon at its booth on Wednesday, plus two sponsored recepঞons offsite: Penn State Alumni Recepon on Tuesday at Mar- low's Tavern at the Pointe from 6-9 p.m. and UMass Lowell Recepon & Dinner that same night at the Rosen Center Hotel, starঞng at 5 p.m. Last but not least, Moldflow also turns 40 this year and Autodesk is celebraঞng all week by showcasing the tool's birth in 1978 all the way through to 2018 using a graphic ঞmeline to highlight a few key milestones. Don't forget to grab your commemoraঞve computer camera cover, keychain or water bole before you conঞnue down the aisle. 92 NPE.ORG A PRODUCT OF PLASTICS INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION Servo Hydraulic Toggle 1000us~2500us ton Two Platen Servo Hydraulic 1200us~3900us ton All Electric Toggle 390us~3900us ton Electric Two Platen 1200us~3900us ton We Deliver World Class Performance TEL:734.741.7000 www.ubemachinery.com Booth W442
