MONDAY NPE 2018 : THE PLASTICS SHOW SHOW DAILY NPE2018 PRODUCTS ON DISPLAY One-Step Color Masterbatch Producঞon Krauss-Maffei Corp. (KraussMaffei Group) | Booth W403 Krauss-Maffei Berstorff is showing direct producঞon of PE color masterbatches on a ZE 28 BluePower twin-screw extruder, using what it says is a unique liquid color-compounding pro- cess to produce masterbatches of any color in a single cycle, meaning no intermediate mono- concentrate producঞon step. The ZE 28 BluePower running in the booth has a 46:1 L/D and is equipped with a liquid- and solids-metering system so that color masterbatches can be produced using any type of starঞng material. Color masterbatches are usually based on mono-concentrates, which are produced on single-screw extruders in a separate processing step, intermediately stored and then fed into the twin-screw extruder in a second step. With the liquid-color compounding technology, the intermediate mono-concentrate producঞon step is no longer needed. Color masterbatches pro- duced this way are said to offer "unparalleled cost-effecঞveness and unique color precision." The firm's twin-screw extruders are self-cleaning, so changes from dark to bright colors can reportedly be made without any problems. Recipes stored in the the company's proprietary Process Control Advanced system are auto- maঞcally set for the complete line at the simple push of a buon on the control panel. The compounding line exhibited is furnished with an Econ underwater pelleঞzer. The company says ZE 28 BluePower twin-screw extruder is ideally suited for research and development applicaঞons as well as for small-batch producঞon. All extruders in the ZE Blue- Power series feature an OD/ID diameter raঞo of 1.65, a specific torque from 13.6 up to 16 Nm/cm 3 , high drive power and are rated for speeds from 900 to 1200 rpm. The 4D and 6D barrel secঞons that can be combined with the extensive range of modular screw elements. | (859) 283-0200 Vacuum Units Offer Mulঞple Benefits Cumsa | Booth W4289 All Cumsa vacuums simply require com- pressed air connected to the device at 6 Bars (90 PSI) with a vacuum capacity that can pull out the gases at rates ranging to 60L/min. Cumsa has two new vacuum devices, the Double Acঞon Vacuumjet (VB) and the Smart Vacuumjet (SV), at NPE2018. The Double Acঞon Vacuumjet (VB) pulls the gas out of the mold during the enঞre injecঞon process. The unit is acঞvated by compressed air when the mold closes and runs unঞl the plasঞc part is ejected. This product is unique in that it has porous inserts or laminar vents, conveniently located in the criঞcal areas of the mold, where the plasঞc fills last, so it helps take away the gases produced during injecঞon through these porous inserts. Therefore, the plasঞc has less resistance to flow and fills faster. A[er the injecঞon and during the ejecঞon, the compressed air helps to clean the insert or laminar vents a[er ev- ery cycle. The VB can be installed as a stand- alone unit or in combinaঞon with any of Cumsa's other vacuum devices. The Smart Vacuumjet (SV) is a fully auto- mated device. The unit needs to be hooked up to 24V for an opঞmal working of its in- ternal solenoid and needs the compressed air connected to start the process. The sole- noid controls the opening and the closing of the vacuum valve, typically located in the mold cavity. The SV operator should be set up only once, when installing the unit in the mold, using the selector placed on the back to set up the vacuum level by selecঞng one of the 4 different vacuum levels (from -600 to -900 mbar). Once the mold closes, the compressed air starts running. The device sends a signal to open the vacuum valve and starts to remove the air from the cavity up to the defined vacuum level. A[er the pre-set vacuum level is achieved, the SV displays the amount of vacuum achieved with green num- bers and it sends a signal to close the vacuum valve. The injecঞon starts while sঞll removing the air throughout the ejector pins and vents. At the ejecঞon, the device produces the blow-off and purges the channels cleaning the insert or laminar vents a[er every cycle. | 34 93 473 25 52 62
