MONDAY N PE 2 018 Explore The Biz Side of Plasঞcs At The Plasঞcs Leadership Summit By Heather Caliendo Plascs Technology NPE2018 has set aside the mornings of Tuesday to Thursday, May 8 – 10 for a con- ference aimed specifically at the business side of plasঞcs. It targets "C-Level" execu- ঞves with an educaঞonal program intended to help them make beŽer-informed strategic decisions that pump up their boŽom lines. This program, called The Plasঞcs Leadership Summit, was created by William Carteaux, president and CEO of the Plasঞcs Industry Associaঞon (PLASTICS), and well- known industry consultant Jay Gardiner of New York-based Gardiner Plasঞcs Inc. The half-day symposia offers execuঞves from processors, brand owners and OEMs a first- of-its-kind educaঞonal and networking op- portunity, while giving them ample ঞme to walk the sold-out show floor a[erward. The summit, for which there is a separate registraঞon fee, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., which includes a networking lunch from 12 - 1:30 p.m. Speakers and presentaঞons are organized through what Gardiner calls "three unique lenses," assigned to different days: Profit (Tuesday), Product (Wednesday) and Producঞon (Thursday). Dow Chemical is the event's Plaঞnum Leadership sponsor. On Tuesday, May 8, the Profit track features talks and panel discus- sions on how our industry can best take ad- vantage of the capital markets for expansion both internally and through acquisiঞon. On Wednesday, May 9, the Product track is geared toward senior business develop- ment, sales and markeঞng, and product/ divisional business managers. Notes Gardiner, "The Plasঞcs Leadership Summit is an educaঞon event aimed at top management that looks at plasঞcs from a business perspecঞve. Execuঞves who aŽend can come away with ideas that can improve their profit margin." Meet New VP of Trade Shows and Markeঞng Susan Krys By Heather Caliendo Plascs Technology Although this is her first NPE, Susan Krys, vice president of trade shows and markeঞng for PLASTICS, is no stranger to trade shows. Prior to joining PLASTICS, Krys has been involved with trade shows for more than 25 years. "My experience spans sales, markeঞng, operaঞons and educaঞon planning in indus- tries including sports markeঞng, telecommu- nicaঞons, healthcare and food markeঞng and of course, now, plasঞcs," she says. Let's get to know Krys beŽer: Q: Can you detail your role with PLASTICS? What do you hope to bring to the role? SK: In my role as VP, trade shows and markeঞng, I am responsible for our flagship event, NPE, as well as other trade show fo- cused events. I also oversee markeঞng, not only for NPE and trade shows, but also for PLASTICS as a whole. I have been fortunate to work for a number of great organizaঞons on several industry-leading shows and with some outstanding exhibitor and vendor part- ners over the years. I hope to bring to this role all the experiences and learnings from my years in the industry—to apply best pracঞces that I have implemented and encountered along the way. Q: How does NPE compare to other trade shows you've worked on? SK: Well, to start with, it's enormous— twice as large as the largest city-wide tele- communicaঞons tradeshow that I worked on for 10 years. And it's a big machinery show —people come to see the running machines, tools and technology. But beyond the ma- chines, people can see every facet of the plasঞcs industry at NPE. I love that the full life-cycle of plasঞcs—from resin to recycling of the plasঞcs products once they've reached the end of their first usable life—is represented. Q: What's been your impression of the plasঞcs industry so far? SK: It's funny how much more aware I am of how versaঞle plasঞcs are and how import- ant plasঞcs are in our day-to-day lives, even when we don't really realize how many ways plasঞcs are improving our lives—from the mundane to the miraculous. Q: What are you most looking forward to seeing during the show? SK: The robots, definitely, and the machin- ery moving at lightning speed—I find it fasci- naঞng. Also, the on-site recycling center that we are creaঞng behind the West Halls of the OCCC with partners Commercial Plasঞcs Re- cycling (CPR) and Weima. Our partners are collecঞng, sorঞng and breaking down all plas- ঞc materials produced on the NPE show floor to a granulate size. These granulate materials will then be transported to CPR's headquar- ters in Tampa, Fla. But what will be most re- warding is seeing people doing business, re- connecঞng with industry colleagues and mak- ing new contacts and taking full advantage of this most important industry gathering. Susan Krys comes to PLASTICS with more than 25 years of associaঞon and tradeshow experience.
